Program: Holiday Party

The Prez Sez...

by Katherine Henwood

Season's Greetings to you all!   As the year runs down to the solstice I begin to hope for sunshine and longer days.  What sun we get is chilly unless sheltered and once it goes behind a cloud or sets it gets cold! I have a few valiant streps in bloom and the petrocosmeas.  Some columneas, streptocarpella and Smithiantha canariensis are showing off as well.  Of course, there are always some Saint Paulias showing color.  Most everything else is foliage only and my episcias look dreadful! But spring will come!

Remember that our Holiday Luncheon is on our regular meeting day, December 18 at the Lakeside Cafe.  Gather at 12:30 for a gesneriad chat and a delicious lunch.  You are invited to bring a wrapped garden related gift (not more that $10.00) for a gift exchange.  It's always fun and I love presents!

Looking forward to seeing you all!

Lakeside Cafe

by David Waugh

Lakeside Café is in the Lakeside Village shopping area on Ocean Avenue between 19th Avenue and Junipero Serra (Ocean Avenue is one block South of Sloat Boulevard)

By car from the Peninsula, get on the 280 Freeway north and take the 19th Avenue turnoff.  Continue north just past the Stonestown Shopping Mall and stay in the right lane.  Turn right on Ocean Avenue.   The restaurant is on the right, about 2 blocks east of 19th Avenue and about 1 block beyond the M line streetcar tracks.   Alternately, you can continue straight on Junipero Serra, instead of veering left on to 19th Avenue.   Continue on Junipero Serra, in the left lane, until you get to Ocean Avenue.  Turn left and the restaurant is three doors from the corner on your left.

By car from the north and Marin County get on 19th Avenue and make a left turn at Sloat Boulevard (one of the few left turns on 19th Avenue).  Proceed east, getting in the right lane, to the next signal and turn right on to Junipero Serra.   Proceed one long block to Ocean Avenue, turn right and you will see the restaurant on the left.

If you are coming from the East Bay you can get on Market Street and continue onward on upper Market, up Twin Peaks.   Upper Market becomes Portola Drive and continues up the hill and then down hill until you reach the signal where you veer half left on to Junipero Serra. (if you go half right you are on Sloat Blvd, the wrong way).   Continue one long block to Ocean Avenue and turn right.

Public Transportation is easy.  Get on the M line going outbound and ask to get off at Ocean Avenue.   Walk east on Ocean Avenue, up the slight incline from the M line.
